*If you still feel that your birds aren't getting enough to eat, we suggest giving our Dried Mealworm Time a try.  For fussy birds that have been spoiled with live, just ween them onto the better stuff by mixing dried with live until all they'll want is the dried mealworms. Save money, time, and effort with the switch from live to dried-it's Dried Mealworm Time

We are excited to now offer live mealworms!  Feeding live mealworms is a very special treat to offer not only your bluebirds, but a variety of other birds as well.  Many birders believe that live mealworms are only for bluebirds, but this is not true.  Many bird species eat live mealworms, including finches, cardinals, woodpeckers, wrens, titmice, robins, blue jays, sparrows, nuthatches, chickadees, and also purple martins!

Mealworms are the larvae of mealworm beetles.  Tenebrio molitor, as they are technically known, are a species of the darkling beetle.  They have a very high amount of protein and are very palatable to birds.  Our beetle's are on a strict diet of fresh cereal and vegetables, so they are a safe food source for your bluebirds and other birds as well.

Mealworms are a primary food choice of bluebirds and our live mealworms are an all-natural, high protein, high energy mealworm product that your bluebirds will love.  Also, our live mealworms are excellent for a variety of reptiles, including sugar gliders!

Mealworms can be offered from just about any bird feeder.  Most birds will eat mealworms right from a dish on the ground.  Live mealworms will keep for several weeks with proper storage and instructions are included with every order.  Live mealworms also work well with tray feeders, platform bird feeders, and even our Supper Dome Feeder!

NOTE: Because of the hot weather in some parts of the country, live mealworm orders may be delayed until weather permits.  Overnight shipping is available upon request, but please contact us first so we can provide shipping cost information.  In the meantime, you may want to select some of our DRIED Mealworm Time or Dried Roasted Waxgrubs.  We apologize for this inconvenience, but we want you and your birds to be happy with your live mealworm order!

Many non-seed-eating songbirds are declining in number because of the loss of breeding habitats and lack of food.  By offering live mealworms to insect-eating birds, you will help to ensure their survival in the wild.

Here's a Hot Tip from your friends at Nature's Wild Bird Food!!

Are you frustrated with not being able to get your supplies of live mealworms?  Add a dash of cold press extra virgin olive oil to dried mealworms for re-hydration and they look "life like!"   Also, the cold press olive oil is tasteless, has lots of anti-oxidants, plus amino acids, and never goes rancid.  But more important, cold press extra virgin olive oil is expelled (unlike Canola oil) from the host organism.  NOTE: Please allow time for the birds to adjust - it might take a day or two.

Here are some of the great features of our live mealworm product!

CARE INSTRUCTIONS - LIVE MEALWORMS
All sizes of mealworms can be stored for several weeks if not months in refrigeration. If you get them pre-packaged in a plastic cup, just simply put them in the refrigerator. If you buy them bulk and they come in a mesh bag, first remove the bag from the box and let them sit and come to room temperature. Then place them in the fridge for a few hours. This will slow them down and they will not be as hard to get out of the newspaper as they would if they were warm and active. Transfer them to a shallow, smooth sided tray or tub. If the sides of your container are smooth enough a lid should not be necessary. If a lid is used it should be well ventilated or your mealworms will become damp and die in a short time. Add a little bran, or crushed Wheaties, Cheerios, Corn Flakes, or oatmeal/cornmeal and you are ready to go. Remove your mealworms form the fridge once every 7 to 10 days, let them warm up to room temperature, then feed them a carrot for a few hours. This is how they get their drink of water and will stay fresh and plump. REMEMBER: Keep dry and well ventilated. NOT TOO DEEP! - Maximum depth of worms and bran no more than 1" to 1 1/2". KEEP COOL! Ideally mealworms should be stored at 45 degrees, so store them somewhere cool.
